DXgov Funding H1 2023 - Translation Bounty

This proposal is to fund a bounty program for translations of Project- DAVI for $250 per language. In line with the DXgov budget we set a contingency budget of $10,000 to be used for contractors and bounties. $2k was used for the alchemy bounty. This proposal proposes $500 of funding for two translations of DAVI. Likely we will add more once we have more complete content in DAVI and so for now we are starting with languages which can be ukept by DXgov contributors in case we add or modify text in the application.
DAVI was built with internationalisation all along and so adding new languages is as simple as dropping in a json file into a new folder in the app. This is a great benefit especially over other apps in the space where this feature is a rarity and highlights DAVI’s focus on accessbility be that on chain accessibility or languages. In particular it will be great for showing off DAVI in different countries hosting conferences such as the upcoming DAOTokyo event.

Those wanting to claim the bounty should make it clear they are working on it to avoid duplicated work and then to complete they should make a PR to the davi-monorepo with a new folder using their language’s ISO 639-1 code (https://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php) as the folder name.
Bounty can be claimed by DXgov contributors but should be done outside of normal responsibilities of work.

Translations should keep the same key values and same text inside curly brackets {{example}}

The curly brackets represents a variable which will be replaced.

“proposals_one": "{{count}}提案”

Languages currently available for bounty (able to be upkept by DAVI team):

  • Japanese (wanted for DAOTokyo - 13th April)
  • Spanish

Languages wanted once DAVI has more complete content, leave suggestions for more languages. Thinking about cultures where english web content is not the norm.

  • Mandarin
  • German
  • Swedish
  • French
  • Portuguese

And so this proposal asks for $400 in DAI to be sent to the DXdao dev multichain multisig (0x9467dcfd4519287e3878c018c02f5670465a9003 ) then onwards to the DXgov guild (0x3f842726188FcD932d43bcA291be28138228e6D9 ).

I think Chinese is probably more desirable than Spanish, especially since DXgov has a bunch of spanish speakers already. But I’d support $500 bounties for all the languages you mentioned. all are good and great way for someone to get involved in DXgov/DXdao. Russian, Indonesian and Vietnamese would also be great.

I am also in favor of this bounty. We have a wide range of contributors in DXdao, but I think it’s ultimately a good idea to outsource certain tasks in order to minimise overhead for the contributors in DXgov for example.

I’d also add Korean and Thai.

Awesome, would be great to start collating a list like this, as suggested:

  • Chinese
  • Indonesian
  • Vietnamese
  • Korean
  • Thai
All seem like fantastic languages to do next.

I think unless there is an immediate opportunity to have native speakers of those languages using DAVI we can hold off for a little longer just because the content is more likely to change.
With Japanese and Spanish we can easily keep the translations up to date internally as the DXgov team.

Hey! My name is Dianne, I’m a Colombian linguist. I’m interested in taking the Spanish translation bounty.
When I’m done with it, I’ll post a link with my PR.
Please, let me know if there is anything else that I should submit for this bounty.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your interest Dianne!
This is still a new idea for us so bear with us as we iron out any issues in the process.

Would you be able to make a discussion on our guild here:

This is where we will manage payments (and the site you’ll be translating), let us know if you have any trouble. Just a message like the one here is fine and if you could post it with the account you would like the payout sent to that would be best also.

Anyone else interested in bounties can follow this process.
My girlfriend will also be posting one for the Japanese translation shortly.

Hello again,

I made a discussion here: Project-DAVI

By the way, is there a way to come in contact with you in case I have questions about the translation?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for making the post!
The DXdao keybase is where most internal contribution discussion occurs, if you introduce yourself there I’ll DM you to put you in touch with the team. Keybase
Alternatively, you could always reach out on the discord DXdao and DXgov members can help you out.

Hello again Ross! I made the PR here: Translation Bounty (Spanish) by dianneriivera · Pull Request #282 · DXgovernance/davi-monorepo · GitHub

Thanks in advance and let me know the next steps!

Amazing! I’ve requested review from our Spanish speaking developers and once its merged I’ll make a proposal to pay you to the address specified which will take 3 days to pass.
